Equal Opportunity Library Exhibit is a Hit!
The Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) hosted two informative and interactive exhibits during the Spring 2026 semester to help community members ensure they know more about their equal opportunity protections. The “Know Your Rights” exhibit was held first in the D. H. Hill Jr. Cyma Rubin Visualization Gallery in February, and then again in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library Teaching and Visualization Lab in March. Both exhibits featured a kick-off event with food and opening remarks from Sheri Schwab, vice provost for equal opportunity. Through this, the OEO advances a core pillar of our mission—broadening public knowledge of equal opportunity principles.
The “Know Your Rights” exhibit highlighted information about several federally and institutionally covered protected statuses, information on the new digital accessibility requirements, and a timeline of civil rights history both at NC State and overall in the United States.
Vice Provost Schwab presented at both kick-off events and shared some history about equal opportunity at NC State. For the James B. Hunt Library Jr. exhibit, she was joined by former NC State General Counsel Eileen Goldgeier. Goldgeier served most recently at her alma mater, Brown University, until she retired in 2024, and is now a graduate-level lecturer at NC State. Together, Schwab and Goldgeier discussed how the OEO has changed over the years and what they envision for the field of civil rights in the future.

Attendees provided positive feedback regarding the exhibit. One person stated, “It is remarkable! Such important information displayed clearly and creatively. I hope more people get to see it.” Another participant remarked, “I learned a lot from the Lunch and Learn session.”

The exhibit featured a web-accessible version for participants who use a screen reader or other assistive technology. The web version included all of the same content, including captions for images and videos. The exhibit included information about NC State’s Deaf* Services, housed within OEO, such as the options available for students who are Deaf*. For both kick-off events, a sign language interpreter stood by the presenters to model accessibility and provide all attendees with equal access to the events. Check out the web version of the content by visiting go.ncsu.edu/oeo-exhibit.
Throughout the event, OEO modeled practices to increase overall accessibility by doing the following:
- Providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters
- Providing food and drink varieties that cover various dietary restrictions
- Providing an accessible web version of the exhibit content
- Including accessibility/accommodations statements on the event registration form
