Our Legal Foundation & Protections
We adhere to federal and state laws that protect our community members from discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status or sexual orientation.
- Title VI & VII (Civil Rights Act): Prohibit discrimination in programs receiving federal funds and in all employment practices.
- Title IX: Prohibits sex-based discrimination in all educational programs, including athletics, admissions and financial aid. It also covers sexual harassment and sexual violence.
- Accommodations: We provide reasonable modifications for disabilities, religious beliefs and pregnancy/parenting needs to ensure full participation in university life.

Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation
NC State strictly prohibits any form of discrimination, harassment or retaliation.
- What it includes: Abusive language, bigotry, exclusion or mistreatment based on protected identities.
- Retaliation: It is illegal to retaliate against any individual for reporting a concern or participating in a discrimination investigation.

- Title IX Coordinator: Coordinates the university’s response to sex discrimination and provides supportive measures (like academic adjustments or no-contact orders).
Consultation: You can seek guidance even if you haven’t experienced discrimination directly but have concerns about the environment.
