Illustrator and sculptor Dare Coulter, a 2015 NC State Art + Design graduate, will be the next featured artist in the African American Cultural Center’s Art Gallery beginning with a Gallery Opening event on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Witherspoon Student Center.
In this fascinating exhibit, artist Dare Coulter combines sculpture, painting, text and light to create a visual metaphor for an understanding of the complexity of the Black experience in America. By contrasting two conflicting energies in a single show, she makes use of the space to provide an immersive experience; the exhibit addresses the bright, colorful side of Black culture while also addressing the dark and ever-present realities of what it also means to be Black in today’s society. Dare brings viewers into her understanding of life as an artist, as a Black American, and as a woman. And in celebration of March being women’s history month, Dare focuses particularly on the significant roles of women within her life experience.
Please join the African American Cultural Center and friends for this vibrant event!
