Please join us for the following Veterans Day events:
Paint Your Story
Join us at Talley Student Union on November 9, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in honoring veterans by bringing public awareness to the services, contributions, and sacrifices our NC State veterans have made through their military service. NC State’s Military and Veterans Resource Center will be hosting “Paint Your Story,” a collaborative work involving student veterans and fellow NC State students. Students will be given a 60-second opportunity to collectively paint through military service prompts on a 3’x4′ canvas. All students are welcome to participate.
Student Veterans Exhibit
D.H. Hill Library will be hosting a student veterans exhibit from November 8-16, 2017, displaying numerous items donated by current student veterans representing their time in service.
Court of Carolinas Flag Tribute
Over 600 U.S. flags will be on display in the Court of Carolinas to honor our student veterans November 6-17, 2017. Each flag will represent a current NC State student veteran.
Annual Veterans Day Run
Students from ROTC units at NC State will conduct the Annual Veterans Day Run on Friday, November 10, 2017. The 2-mile run will begin at 5:45 a.m. at the Belltower. Rear Admiral Douglas G. Morton (ret.) will be speaking at the ceremony following the run. Let’s join fellow students and community members in honor of our veterans.
Green Zone Training
Modeled on the “Safe Zone” program, Green Zone is designed for faculty and staff to receive training about issues potentially facing active service members, student veterans and their families. The training assists advisors, faculty, staff and peers to better serve this population of students through awareness of the potential challenges service members, student veterans and their families might face when attending college. Participants who complete the training will receive a sign to display in their office and have their name listed on our website as having completed the training. Green Zone allies are not expected to be experts or mental health counselors but rather a sympathetic ear and someone who can refer a student veteran to appropriate on-campus resources.
Green Zone will be offered on the following dates:
- Thursday, November 16, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Talley Student Union, Room 3222;
- Friday, November 17, 12:00-2:00 p.m., Witherspoon Student Center, Washington Sankofa Room (126).
