Alexius Pearson (she/her) joined the Wolfpack as an interpersonal violence response coordinator, an integral member of the Women’s Center team, on July 6, 2020. In her role, she will provide survivor support and advocacy for students who have experienced interpersonal violence, including relationship violence, sexual violence and stalking.
Pearson comes to NC State from the Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC), where she worked as a legal advocate. While there, she assisted survivors in obtaining domestic violence protective orders, accompanied survivors to interviews with law enforcement and prosecutors, developed individualized safety plans in collaboration with survivors, provided emotional support and crisis intervention, and worked to connect survivors with information and referrals to other resources, as appropriate. Her experience includes serving student survivors, LGBTQ+ survivors, survivors of color and survivors with disabilities.
While working toward her B.A. and M.S. degrees in criminal justice at NC Central University, Pearson also served as a community outreach intern at DCRC, graduate assistant in the Criminal Justice Department and intern with the Duke Campus Police.
Pearson says she is excited to join the Women’s Center to continue her passion for community engagement, prevention, programming and advocacy through the lens of oppression, anti-racism and interpersonal violence. “I take pride in aiding individuals in finding their voice and raising awareness of intimate partner violence, sexual abuse and assault. My experiences have taught me the importance of collaborating with other community agencies and ensuring the community we serve has a seat at the table,” she says.
