Discrimination, Oppression and Violence in the Trans Community
November 18, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
While mainstream media is giving more attention to LGBTQ issues, issues faced by transgender community members are noticeably absent from the national conversation. Research conducted by the Williams Institute shows 41% of transgender people attempt suicide at some point in their lives, and the murder of trans people was at an all-time high in 2019. This 1 ½-hour workshop is open to NC State students, staff, faculty and alumni as well as local community members. The workshop will explore the cultural values that contribute to a climate of interpersonal, social and institutional discrimination, oppression and violence in the trans community.
