Food and Housing (In)Security in the GLBT Community

Members of the LGBTQ community are often at higher risk for experiencing compounding forms of discrimination, bias and prejudice. Conversations around disparities tend to discuss mental health or sexual health, but there are many other areas of life in which members of the LGBTQ community face disparate outcomes. This workshop will examine the disparities and challenges faced by LGBTQ students who are experiencing food and housing insecurity. Throughout the workshop, participants will unpack some of the contributing systemic and institutional barriers while also learning ways that they can better support students who identify as LGBTQ and are facing food or housing insecurity in the United States. This two-hour workshop is open to NC State students, staff, faculty and alumni and interested local community members.
