April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), part of a national effort to bring attention to the issue of sexual violence. This year’s observance occurs at a time when the national discourse around sexual assault could not be more vocal.
“Embrace Your Voice” During Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) takes place every April and is part of a national initiative to raise awareness about sexual violence. This year’s theme, “Embrace your Voice,” speaks to the importance of creating a culture that supports survivors of sexual violence. NC State aims to create a campus in which our students believe and support survivors, do not accept acts of violence and join efforts to create a safer campus and a safer world for all of us.
Week of Action: Finding Your Center, Expanding Your Circle
The GLBT Center will host its third annual Week of Action from Monday, April 2 to Friday, April 6, 2018 with the theme "Finding Your Center, Expanding Your Circle." The goal of this week is to help students, faculty and staff find a social justice issue they are passionate about, explore ways to address the challenges of that issue and then discover ways that issue intersects with other social justice issues.
Be Aware: Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The NC State Women's Center will present a full calendar of programs for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which occurs nationally every April. We encourage you to attend at least one program this month to help stimulate dialogue and consciousness as we focus on this serious issue.
Take Back the Night 200 Strong
Women and allies came out in full force at this year's Take Back the Night event on April 21, 2016. About 200 students gathered in Stafford Commons to show their support for survivors of sexual violence and to let their voices be heard.

Getting Real: April's Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events Still Needed
April has come around again and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, or SAAM, is still needed. Why? To raise awareness of a critical set of issues many still struggle against. SAAM is commemorated across the nation by community agencies, police departments, local businesses and campus communities. The Women’s Center has planned a full calendar of Sexual Assault Awareness Month programs.
