Gender and Equity Research Symposium Invites Proposals

Gender & Equity Symposium 2017

The Gender and Equity Research Symposium highlights research that promotes a more equitable and justice-oriented society. An initiative of the Women’s Center, the symposium bridges the interdisciplinary nature of gender and equity work through research and provides an opportunity to for students to connect with faculty and staff who are engaged in these areas.

This year’s symposium will include round table presentations and poster presentations. Participants are encouraged to submit a poster or presentation proposal that shows interdisciplinary scholarship addressing themes of gender, race, class, ability, sexuality, religion/spirituality and/or other intersections of identity in terms of equity. The use of critical and feminist theories is encouraged but not required.

This year’s keynote speaker will be NC State faculty member Dr. Alyssa Rockenbach; for more information, see the Facebook event page. Proposals will be accepted through February 18, 2018; please see go.ncsu.edu/gesymposium2018 for details.

Students who have completed literature reviews and thought through methodologies may wish to submit a poster proposal, while the round table discussions pair well with students who have engaged in research and are seeking ways to connect the dots. The round tables give students a way to present their research in a low-impact environment and elicit feedback from their peers and others who are interested in the same work. Scholars from all disciplines are encouraged to submit a proposal. Research does not need to be completed by the time of the presentation. The Women’s Center staff is available to speak with potential presenters regarding their interests and the best way to showcase their research.
