Qwen Ballard: Advancing the Black Male Initiative
Qwen Ballard will receive his master's degree in higher education administration on Saturday. He also earned his B.A. in business and marketing education with a concentration in entrepreneurship at NC State. He has held the position of program coordinator of the Black Male Initiative, has been active with the Higher Education Association and is originally from Wilson, NC.

Greene Named African American Cultural Center Director
The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has announced that Moses T. Alexander Greene is the new director of NC State’s African American Cultural Center. Greene comes from St. Augustine's University, where he served as chief communications officer and assistant professor of media and communications. He will join the AACC staff on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Witherspoon Student Center Renovation Planning Begins
On Monday, April 17, 2017, architects from Perkins + Will unveiled preliminary design concepts for the highly anticipated renovation of Witherspoon Student Center, home of the African American Cultural Center, Military and Veteran Services, Passport Services, an interfaith prayer and meditation space, several student organizations and the cinema.
Mauricio Carrillo Makes a Mark Through Mentoring
Mauricio Carrillo is a junior in business administration concentrating in supply chain management from Smithfield, NC. He serves in many roles at NC State, including peer mentor through the Poole College of Management, Juntos mentor, president of the Photography Club, member of the Supply Chain Club, resident in the Global Village and intern in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity.
NC State Students Reflect on Social Justice at Appalachian State
As part of their ongoing commitment to engaging students in high-impact learning opportunities related to social justice, the GLBT Center took five students to the annual student-led Equity in Action conference hosted by Appalachian State University during the first weekend in April.

Each spring, the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity presents the Chancellor’s Creating Community Awards to individuals and groups from across the university whose projects and practices best reflect the implementation of NC State’s equity and diversity goals during the current academic year.
Native American Banquet and Pow Wow Highlights
NC State’s Native American community held its end-of-year Banquet and Powwow on March 31 and April 1, 2017 respectively. Both events were hosted by the Native American Student Association (NASA) and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) in conjunction with Multicultural Student Affairs.
