Review Our Highlights of the Year
The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has published its 2017-18 annual report. The report highlights accomplishments from the past year for each of the office’s units, which include Equal Opportunity and Equity, Diversity Engagement, Training and Education, the four campus community centers and the Bias Impact Response Team.
African American Cultural Center Unveiling at Open House
From 2:00-4:00 p.m. on August 21, 2018, the African American Cultural Center will officially open its newly renovated space. The office completed its transformation to an open plan with new furnishings, paint and carpeting and the addition of a new spacious, digitally-equipped meeting room just in time for the new academic year.
Making NC State Accessible for All
While some students may not know about the Disability Resource Office (DRO), a significant number benefit from it throughout the year. In the 2017-18 academic year, 1,827 unique undergraduate, graduate and summer students received assistance from the office.
Grants for Captioning Multimedia Now Available for Instructors
As NC State faculty integrate multimedia into their courses more and more, it is imperative that courses are captioned. Captioning refers to the process of adding text captions to media that uses audio. Faculty can now apply for a captioning grants.
John Miller Joins African American Cultural Center
A student-centered scholar-practitioner, John Miller IV holds a master's in higher education and bachelor's in psychology with a concentration in arts entrepreneurship, both from NC State. He most recently served as residence coordinator at Duke University.
Meet Hayley Gallagher, Business Officer
Hayley Gallagher, business officer for the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED), provides budgetary oversight for OIED’s state appropriated budgets, discretionary, trust, gift accounts and contracts and grant funding. Prior to coming to OIED, she served as fiscal manager for the William and Ida Friday Institute.
Chaniqua Simpson Selected as Electoral Justice League Fellow
Chaniqua Simpson, a doctoral student in sociology, will serve as one of twelve Electoral Justice League Fellows nationwide as part of the Movement for Black Lives. Each of the activists will advocate for a specific candidate or cause and work toward election wins in cities across the U.S.
Queer Youth Leadership Summit Receives Award
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, NC State's GLBT Center was honored at InsideOut’s Twelfth Annual Awards Banquet and Gaiety. In its inaugural year, QYLS engaged thirty-six youth leaders and organizers in a transformative day-long conference experience.
Sachelle Ford Joins African American Cultural Center Staff
With a Ph.D. in English from Brown University, a B.A. in English from Emory University and over a decade of experience in research and curriculum development, assessment, teaching, program coordination and student development, Sachelle Ford has specialized her work around African American and African Diaspora cultures.
