OIED’s four campus community centers — the African American Cultural Center, GLBT Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and the Women’s Center — are known for providing signature programs and services for the campus, from heritage and awareness month programming such as Latinx Heritage Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which are both happening in October, to well-known annual events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Campus Commemoration, Sisterhood Dinner and the year-end Recognizing Excellence in Diversity (RED) Event.
Another important function of our centers is the drop-in support we provide in welcoming spaces that many students come to know as their home away from home during the academic year. Students rely on the support, fellowship, friendship, guidance, informal mentoring and overall feeling of community and belongingness that usually characterizes our centers.
Due to the pandemic and partial closing of the university, it has been challenging to offer the support that students need remotely, but each of our centers has continued to provide community to the best of their ability and remain on-call for students needing support and/or assistance as they navigate both the usual and new challenges in their academic and personal lives.
Please know that the centers are still here for you. We invite students, faculty and staff to contact the centers as needed.
