On April 6, 2021, the Women’s Center hosted a virtual Take Back the Night event to honor the strength, courage and resiliency of the NC State activists, advocates and survivors who work to create a stronger and safer campus community.<\/p>\n
The event, broadcast via YouTube Premiere, included a virtual rally from 6 to 7:30 p.m. featuring Alexius Pearson, an interpersonal violence response coordinator with the Women\u2019s Center, Tashana Flewellin, president of The Movement Peer Educators, and Juniper Nie, vice president of The Movement. Following the virtual rally, participants had the option to attend a private virtual speakout.<\/p>\n
The broadcast featured a short documentary made in 2020 by Samantha Aamot<\/a>, a graduate student in public history, about the event’s long tradition at NC State, in the U.S., and around the world. The film features archival photographs and footage tracing the history of the event on campus. Aamot also created a web-based digital\u00a0story map<\/a> that accompanies the film.<\/p>\n
