Ebony Harlem Awards to Celebrate 25th Anniversary
The Ebony Harlem Awards of Excellence is the annual celebration of Black excellence at NC State. The event began in 1993, making this year’s 25th anniversary the continuation of a legacy of student impact and collaboration.
Alternative Service Breaks Focus on Social and Economic Inequities
NC State's Campus Community Centers continued their partnership with the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service (CSLEPS) on several Alternative Service Break (ASB) trips earlier this month. These high-impact travel experiences help students develop and enhance a value for public service, civic engagement and service-learning as well as engage in dialogue that explores and advocates for social justice issues locally and globally.
GLBT Center Hosts Inaugural Queer Youth Leadership Summit
On Saturday, February 17, 2018 the GLBT Center hosted thirty-five high school students from across the Triangle area for its inaugural Queer Youth Leadership Summit (QYLS). QYLS provided leadership development, social justice advocacy training, coalition-building and capacity-increasing opportunities for GLBT high school students.
Alonzo Fullenwilder Excels in Multiple Roles
Alonzo Fullenwilder, a senior in mechanical engineering with a minor in African studies, is from Wilmington, North Carolina. He began working in the African American Cultural Center in August. He also serves as president of the Xi Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Multicultural Student Affairs volunteer ambassador and chancellor’s aide.
Chauncey Bowden: Serving Students in MSA
Chauncey Bowden joined the Multicultural Student Affairs team in December of 2017 as the new program assistant. Bowden is excited about working with students and building friendships and partnerships across campus.

Black History Month Programs Begin in February
Black History Month is a time when communities across the nation celebrate the of achievements by Black Americans and recognize the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. At NC State, we choose to spend Black History Month celebrating the achievements, culture and contribution of members of the Black and African Diaspora.
Campus Community Centers to Host Social Justice January
The OIED Campus Community Centers will host the fourth annual Social Justice January later this month. This collaborative annual event co-hosted by the GLBT Center, Women’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and African American Cultural Center aims to engage the campus community in critical conversations about contemporary social justice issues that impact multiple communities.
Ryan Emanuel Bridges Science and Community
During his sabbatical last spring, Ryan Emanuel, associate professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, began working on an environmental history of the Lumbee community. It was the next step in a journey that had begun two years prior.
Native American Heritage Month to Celebrate Resilience
NC State will observe Native American Heritage Month during the month of November with events highlighting the theme of “resilience.” Multicultural Student Affairs invites those who wish to learn about Native American culture, or simply to enjoy, to attend the celebrations and workshops.
