“Hidden Figure” Dr. Christine Darden Visits
The College of Engineering welcomed Christine Darden on Thursday, August 17, 2017 for a seminar at Hunt Library. One of the African American women NASA hired as a “human computer” to compute numbers for the engineers, Darden holds a B.S. in mathematics from Hampton University, a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Virginia State College and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from George Washington University.
New Director Leads Multicultural Student Affairs
Nashia Whittenburg has joined NC State as director of Multicultural Student Affairs. Whittenburg has over 12 years of student engagement experience in higher education.

Qwen Ballard: Advancing the Black Male Initiative
Qwen Ballard will receive his master's degree in higher education administration on Saturday. He also earned his B.A. in business and marketing education with a concentration in entrepreneurship at NC State. He has held the position of program coordinator of the Black Male Initiative, has been active with the Higher Education Association and is originally from Wilson, NC.
Greene Named African American Cultural Center Director
The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has announced that Moses T. Alexander Greene is the new director of NC State’s African American Cultural Center. Greene comes from St. Augustine's University, where he served as chief communications officer and assistant professor of media and communications. He will join the AACC staff on Monday, May 15, 2017.
Mauricio Carrillo Makes a Mark Through Mentoring
Mauricio Carrillo is a junior in business administration concentrating in supply chain management from Smithfield, NC. He serves in many roles at NC State, including peer mentor through the Poole College of Management, Juntos mentor, president of the Photography Club, member of the Supply Chain Club, resident in the Global Village and intern in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity.
Veterinary Medicine Excels with Inclusion
Dr. Allen Cannedy is director of diversity and inclusion in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Cannedy is a 2017 recipient of the Iverson Bell Award for "outstanding leadership and contributions in promoting opportunities for underrepresented minorities in veterinary medical education” by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).
