The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity welcomes Adrienne Davis as associate director of the Campus Community Centers at NC State. Adrienne comes from the Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill in Durham, North Carolina, where she served as its first diversity coordinator. At Trinity, Davis provided strategic direction to guide the school’s commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity, helped senior leaders respond to diversity concerns and conflicts, created and facilitated diversity workshops and training, developed affinity spaces for marginalized students and implemented restorative processes to mitigate bias incidents.

In her new role, Davis will provide technical and case management support for the university’s Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT), coordinate ongoing training for BIRT members and develop restorative practices designed to build community and support impacted persons following acts of discrimination, injustice and bias. She will also assist with departmental strategic planning, assessment, marketing/communication and fund development for the campus community centers.

Davis is a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. She also earned a master’s in public administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later served under the leadership of Julius L. Chambers as the director of research, student programs, and community services at the UNC Center for Civil Rights. Deeply committed to interrogating the intersections of equity, inclusion and diversity, Davis says that she loves inviting people into restorative conversations that build healthy communities. She adds that on great days, she is “funny, thoughtful and ready for a challenge. On bad days, homemade strawberry shortcake makes everything better.”
