A long-awaited interfaith prayer and meditation space will open in Witherspoon Student Center, Room 204 in fall 2016. This newly designated space, the result of the efforts of many, will help make NC State a more welcoming place for members of all faiths on campus.
Temporary spaces on the ground floor and third floor of Engineering Building II are still in use for meditation, prayer and quiet reflection on Centennial Campus. A temporary prayer space in D.H. Hill Library has also been in use since August 2015, when it reopened after renovations in the west wing of the library were completed.
Establishment of the new space is due to the combined efforts of many, including student advocates who made presentations to the Student Center Board of Directors and the Student Senate, which were endorsed and shared with the University Space Committee, the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED), the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA), Talley Student Union and the Office of the University Architect.
Dr. Tracey Ray is assistant vice provost for student diversity in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity.
