Are you looking for new and exciting ways to show off your passion for social justice? The GLBT Center is hosting a Week of Action to engage students in dialog about intersectionality, advocacy, and activism.

• Monday, March 28, 2016 features a student-led discussion about intersectional feminism. Along with exploring the definition of intersectionality and feminism, this event will look at the major feminist perspectives and analyze the current policies relating to intersectional feminism. Join Students Advocating for Gender Equality and The Movement in the Women’s Center Lounge from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
• Wednesday, March 30, 2016 launches with a one-hour introduction to public art with the Glenwood South Neighborhood Collective’s Ashley Melville, a local artist. Ashley’s workshop, which lasts from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in Talley 4101, will walk students through the different ways public art can be used to advance a community and push for advocacy. Students will be challenged to think about what social justice issue inspires them to act before heading to the Free Expression Tunnel to paint and tell the Wolfpack about it. The GLBT Center will also be painting a mural for Transgender Day of Visibility.
• The Week of Action will wrap up on Friday, April 1, 2016 with a workshop in Talley 4101 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. about social media activism. Have you ever wondered how to harness Twitter, Tumblr, blog sites and other social media platforms to advance your cause? Dr. Elizabeth Nelson will discuss the various ways social media has been used for large-scale activism and organizing and how students can use their own social media presence to advance small-scale/individual advocacy in their peer groups. These three events are designed to introduce students to intersecting identities and issues, spark conversations about new forms of activism and then take their newfound understanding and apply it on and off-campus.
