The African American Cultural Center has opened a new art exhibit titled, “The Soul of Philanthropy.” The multimedia exhibit features photography, stories, light, movement and interactivity. With the 2011 book Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists as its basis, the exhibit is the work of author and speaker Valaida Fullwood and photographer Charles Thomas.
On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, the Cultural Center Gallery hosted its opening reception for this exhibit. Creators Fullwood and Thomas were on hand to describe their process and speak about both the book as well as their philanthropic experience. Fullwood performed a spoken-word piece and talked about her longtime involvement with a “giving circle,” which sparked the creation of Giving Back.
Please stop by the African American Cultural Center to see this beautiful semester-long exhibit. Admission is free. The book is also available in the adjacent African American Cultural Center Library and Media Room.
