The African American Cultural Center Art Gallery’s newest exhibition, “The Creative World of Synthia SAINT JAMES” will commence with a Gallery Opening event tomorrow evening, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Gallery is located on the second floor of Witherspoon Student Center. Synthia SAINT JAMES will also be featured as the fall artist and scholar-in-residence.

Synthia SAINT JAMES is a visual artist, author, speaker and educator who is best known for creating the cover art for the hardcover edition of Terry McMillan’s book Waiting to Exhale and for designing the first Kwanzaa stamp for the U.S. Postal Service, issued in 1997. Raised in New York and Los Angeles, she sold her first painting at the age of twenty in New York and had her first solo art exhibition in 1997 at Inner City Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California. In 1980, she participated in her first international exhibition in Paris, France.

SAINT JAMES has illustrated and authored children’s books and authored literary works for adults. She has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the NAACP Image Award in 2012.
