Darren Lipman, a senior majoring in mathematics and political science, knows the meaning of service. Darren has been involved with the GLBT CommUNITY Alliance at NC State, serving as secretary during 2013-14 and president during 2014-15. He is a frequent attendee and supporter of GLBT Center programs and events, including serving as a team leader on the San Francisco ASB trip. He is also an Equal Opportunity Institute (EOI) 2014 graduate and a 2015 EOI Graduate Scholar. As if that were not enough, Darren has also been a member of Hillel during all three of his years at NC State.
On the academic front, Darren presented a paper titled “Mathematical Apportionment of the U.S. House” on campus and “Influence of Candidates’ Sexual Orientation in Elections” at the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA) Conference in New Orleans in January. He is active in the Student Undergraduate Math (SUM) Club. Darren will be in NC State’s accelerated master’s program in math next year and then will join the Teach for America Corps in Milwaukee, teaching high school math, with the eventual goal of teaching math possibly at the college level and serving as advisor to a GLBT campus group. Best of luck, Darren and thanks for your service to OIED and NC State!
