As the assistant director in the African American Cultural Center, Dawn focuses on a balance of programmatic and administrative responsibilities. She coordinates artists and their work for the African American Cultural Center’s Gallery and advises the AYA Ambassadors. She also focuses on providing new and enhanced leadership development opportunities for students associated with the center, promotes undergraduate and graduate-level research and collaborates with faculty to extend learning opportunities beyond the classroom for those wanting to learn more about African American people and cultures represented in the diaspora. Behind the scenes, she works with the AACC team to grow its marketing and communication efforts (website, newsletter, social media), assists in managing daily office operations, supervises student staff and leaders and represents the center on various committees across campus.

Dawn is from Rochester, New York, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology at Nazareth College. She completed her Master’s degree in student personnel administration at Buffalo State College, also in Western New York. Before transitioning to her new role in the AACC, Dawn worked in the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service (CSLEPS) at NC State and on the housing and residence life staffs at four institutions, including Keuka College (NY), Nazareth College (NY), Monroe Community College (NY) and Elon University (NC). Dawn’s involvement outside of NC State includes membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., serving as a trustee associate on the American College Personnel Association Foundation Board and volunteering with the nursery at World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham, NC.
