The planning process is underway for the 2016 Tunnel of Oppression, an annual interactive program that examines issues of race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, gender identity and sexual violence. Participants are guided through a series of scenes designed to create awareness about contemporary examples of oppression and to help them think critically about both the nature and impact of such oppression. At the end of the tour, there is a brief facilitated discussion that helps participants process what they’ve seen and heard. The entire experience lasts approximately 30 minutes per group.
How YOU Can Help!
We are currently recruiting both actors and tour guides to help with this year’s Tunnel of Oppression, which will be held on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16, 2016 with tours happening in shifts from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 4:00-9:00 p.m. No prior acting experience is required! Students can sign up online. Contact Renee Wells if you have questions.
In addition to actors and tour guides, we are soliciting the participation of 30-40 individuals to volunteer their time throughout the two-day production of this event. We have several areas of service for our volunteers, to include: set-up/break-down, check-in station, holding and debriefing room attending and general event assistance. The time commitment would include 1-2 planning meetings in mid-February, one dress rehearsal on Monday, March 14, and the two days of the production: Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16 (11 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 4:00-9:00 p.m. on both days). The volunteers can choose to participate on a rotational basis throughout the event and we will work to ensure that rotation is scheduled around the class or work schedules.
To sign up as a volunteer, please sign up online via the volunteer form.
