The GLBT Center, Women’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and African American Cultural Center will co-host the second annual Social Justice January featuring guest lecturer and workshop facilitator Dr. Ravi Perry. Dr. Perry is president of the National Association for Ethnic Studies and associate professor of Political Science at Virginia Commonwealth University. On Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Talley 3285, Dr. Perry will give a lecture entitled, “Rise. Resist. Repeat.” Dr. Perry’s lecture will address the culture of violence against underrepresented communities that underlies the #blacklivesmatter and #translivesmatter movements. The lecture is open to students, staff, faculty and community members.
Dr. Perry will also facilitate a workshop for students on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Witherspoon 356. The workshop will address intersectional social justice activism and will help students learn how to engage effectively in collaborative activism. The workshop is open to all current NC State students.
