The 2015 NC State Human Rights Day observance will focus on the intersection of spirituality, faith and values and the protection and promotion of human rights with an exhibit in Talley’s Cultural Hearth featuring graphical stories from the five largest world religions created by Design Professor Marc Russo, along with displays by campus organizations. Chancellor Woodson will sign the Human Rights Day proclamation on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cultural Hearth.

A principal theme throughout this year’s observation is “caring for other people.” This is also a principle underlying the 30 articles of the Universal Human Rights Declaration adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948, setting standards by which all people in all nations have a right to live. Living at the level of these standards requires that people care for one another and support each other’s human rights.

Many people in the world act to support human rights within the context of their religious faiths. Many others (including more than 20% of U.S. Americans) adhere to self-adopted systems of values that are also committed to the care of others.

Exhibit visitors are encouraged to experience the exhibit and share their reflections in the book provided in the space.
