The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a psychometric instrument that assesses intercultural competence — the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities.
IDI begins with a 50-item online questionnaire that takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. After taking the assessment, participants receive an Individual Profile Report that outlines the individual’s capacity to shift perspectives and appropriately adapt behaviors and an Individual Development Plan (IDP) – a detailed blueprint for the individual to further develop their cultural competence.
OIED invites teams across NC State to use IDI to improve their intercultural competence. We offer different levels of group experiences to fit your team’s needs. In addition to our Bronze and Silver levels, we will offer our new Gold tier.
As we continue our efforts to influence and inspire a sense of value and belonging throughout the campus community and its constituent organizations, we welcome institutional groups to sign up for the Gold tier.
Gold tier participants will experience both individual and group levels of engagement. The program will initiate with participants completing the IDI assessment and subsequently receiving their IDI profile, Development Plan, and completing a debrief with a Qualified Administrator. After exploring one’s own cultural competency, participants will engage with their group to receive a collective debrief. The debrief will explore the group’s cultural competency based on the contributions of each group member’s IDI assessment and will result in a group profile. Gold-level participants will receive priority seating in OIED certificate programs.
