If you coordinate events, you most likely enter those events for display on the university calendar.
You may have noticed a field in the calendar event entry form labeled “ADA/Event Coordinator” (pictured below).
The field is currently optional but will become required on Sep. 7, 2021 to ensure NC State’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and increase our inclusiveness for members of our community who need accommodations to attend an event.
Who Should You List?
When planning an event, designate someone in your organization, such as the event coordinator, to respond to any requests for accommodations. This could range from providing closed captions for a video presentation to arranging for a specific assistive device or measure.
When planning a university event, best practices include always considering the needs of all attendees, including those with disabilities. It is important to plan for and ensure the accessibility of your event prior to hosting the event. This proactive approach helps continue to create an inclusive and welcoming university community.
Please note that NC State is required by law to provide equal access to members of our community who have disabilities. By providing the name and contact information of the event coordinator who can assist with the request within your calendar event listing, you make it easier for individuals with a disability to request reasonable accommodation and make your event more accessible.
