and Reflect

Signature NC State Event
Drew Record Attendance
The NC State Council on the Status of Women hosted the 34th annual Sisterhood Dinner on Monday, February 23, 2015 in Talley Student Union Ballroom with 60 tables and 480 faculty, staff and students attending. The program featured a performance by Vox Accalia, the NC State women's chorus, performing pieces composed by women.

The keynote address was given by Dr. Ruth Dial Woods, a North Carolina educator, leader and activist who has been promoting equality for women for over 50 years. Dr. Woods urged attendees not to hesitate to take the opportunities that come up during the course of their lifetimes.

This year's recipients of the Equity for Women Awards were also announced (see article at left). The program included the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Dean Daniel Solomon, College of Sciences, who has championed women's equity and diversity on campus throughout his career. The presentation included a video tribute as well as the bestowing of a framed artwork reflective of this year's Sisterhood Dinner theme, "Soar Like an Eagle: Spirit, Vision, Strength." We thank Dean Solomon for his tireless work that has touched the lives of many.
Connect with NC State Program Wins Honors from National Organizations
Connect with NC State, a web-based program designed to help NC State employees develop a strong relationship with the university, has been recognized by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). ACUI awarded it First Place in their annual Steal This Idea competition in the category of Digital Campaign - Professional Staff, and CASE awarded the program their Southeast District 3 Grand Award in the category of Programs and Projects.

Created by the Staff Diversity Advisory Board, which is convened by Director of Staff Diversity Dr. Deb Luckadoo, the Connect with NC State website was designed by John Starbuck, member of the board and web developer for Campus Enterprises. John dubbed it the "Employee Bucket List."

The Staff Diversity Advisory Board spent a meeting about a year ago discussing the importance of employees participating in the wide array of programs and events on campus, as well as being familiar with the various special and traditional places on campus. Board members believed that such participation and familiarity would nurture a sense of connection to campus.
