The NC State Council on the Status of Women hosted the 34th annual Sisterhood Dinner on Monday, February 23, 2015 in Talley Student Union Ballroom with 60 tables and 480 faculty, staff and students attending. The program featured a performance by Vox Accalia, the NC State women's chorus, performing pieces composed by women.
The keynote address was given by Dr. Ruth Dial Woods, a North Carolina educator, leader and activist who has been promoting equality for women for over 50 years. Dr. Woods urged attendees not to hesitate to take the opportunities that come up during the course of their lifetimes.
This year's recipients of the Equity for Women Awards were also announced (see article at left). The program included the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Dean Daniel Solomon, College of Sciences, who has championed women's equity and diversity on campus throughout his career. The presentation included a
video tribute as well as the bestowing of a framed artwork reflective of this year's Sisterhood Dinner theme, "Soar Like an Eagle: Spirit, Vision, Strength." We thank Dean Solomon for his tireless work that has touched the lives of many.
